Checking out the Fantauzzo Hotel - Curated to defy convention

HomeNews hubTravel NewsChecking out the Fantauzzo Hotel - Curated to defy convention

Andy Warhol said “art is what you can get away with” and the people behind the latest Art Series Hotel haven’t held back. The brand new The Fantauzzo hotel in BrisVegas oozes individuality with a glamorous, arty edge.

Located alongside the heritage-listed Howard Smith Wharves, the ‘hood’ is quickly becoming the favourite new haunt for locals. Now visitors can also chillax on this dramatic cliffside bend of the Brisbane River, which is less than 2kms from the CBD.

In keeping with the precinct’s hip feel, the hotel (named after artist Vincent Fantauzzo, but more on that later!), is a $100million work of art in itself. Taking its form from the Brisbane riverside cliffs, the hotel is nestled into the rock face – while showcasing expansive views of the iconic Story Bridge and Brisbane River.

The designers have created an uber contemporary hotel which zings with all things that go well together – art, food, drinks, architecture and views. As the name suggests, the hotel is a bold tribute to artist Vincent Fantauzzo. If you haven’t seen any of his stunning photorealism-inspired portraits yet, you absolutely should. Original artworks, as well as up to 500 reproductions of Fantauzzo’s most recognised works, will be featured throughout the luxe, 166 suite hotel. While our favourite would have to be his study of Health Ledger which graces the hotel lobby, he has also painted Matt Moran, Baz Luhrmann and his wife, Asher Keddie.

With its gritty and historic location, The Fantauzzo is part of a creative micro community of businesses and locals breathing a lively, hipster vibe into the precinct. When food, leisure, art and the public all intersect – communities are built and The Fantauzzo - Howard Smith Wharves are an example of a destination which is as much for ‘in the know’ locals - as it is for visitors. Apart from gifting Brisbane it’s super cool architecture, the hotel also offers public accessibility to Vincent Fantauzzo’s works and a new opportunity to connect with the river, its history and culture.

Top-notch offerings at The Fantauzzo include some seriously good food and bars - and whatever you do, don’t miss the chance to take in the CBD and river views while you’re sippin’ a cocktail at the rooftop pool bar. The luxe, artisan vibe is mirrored in every detail of the hotel, with furnishings carefully curated and placed for maximum affect.

The hotel also embraces all things green, with environmental credentials including high performance glazing, low VOC materials, cascading plants and cross ventilation.

Early modernist painter, Marc Chagall claimed that “great art picks up where nature ends” and The Fantauzzo is living proof. Expect to see guest rooms which reference nature - with river, vegetation or sculptured rock wall views. A seriously high wall of glass in the lobby brings the dramatic cliff-face inside. While all cars will be underground so the riverfront is completely free for people-only traffic. So you can stroll like a local!
