A panel of international judges have awarded the latest round of the prestigious Levi’s® Music Prize to Melbourne-based singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Georgia Flipo aka G Flip.
Now in its fourth year, the coveted Levi’s® Music Prize provides $25,000 cash courtesy of Levi’s® Australia plus an additional $5,000 in travel from Stage and Screen financially assisting them in achieving their export goals. The Prize is awarded to four Australian and New Zealand artists each year totalling $120,000 and establishing the Levi’s® Music Prize as the most significant monetary prize pool available to musicians in Australia.
Administered by QMusic in conjunction with Sounds Australia the prize provides multiple opportunities for BIGSOUND artists as they build their international careers post-BIGSOUND.
“Congratulations to G Flip for being awarded the $30,000 Levi’s® Music Prize. We’ve had the pleasure of watching Georgia make strides on the Australian and international festival and touring circuits achieving remarkable growth and building a strong community. This prize will help in advancing her work globally,” said Angela Samut, QMusic CEO and BIGSOUND Executive Producer
Head of Marketing at Levi’s® Australia, Trent Bos mentions, “G Flip is one of the most multitalented artists that’s been involved in the Levi’s Music Prize program, she’s such a talented producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. We’re so stoked to be able to contribute to the wave of momentum that G Flip already has and see where the Levi’s® Music Prize can help take her in the coming months and years ahead.”
In a video announcing G Flip as the winner of the Levi’s® Music Prize Georgia says, “I’m so stoked, the money will go to getting my little arse around the world to write for myself and for other artists. Thank you so much Levi’s®, thank you Stage and Screen, and thank you for supporting Australian music. It’s so brilliant that you do this and I thank you so much.”
With the total of $30,000 in cash from Levi’s® and travel from Stage and Screen, G Flip and her team have their sights set on building global relationships with dedicated writing trips to London and Los Angeles where Georgia will co-write with a range of artists and explore opportunities.
G Flip’s manager Dan Zilber of Future Classic says, “We believe that getting Georgia into the room and in the company of other hit songwriters gives us an opportunity to make more direct artist to artist connections and also opens the doors for features and writing for other artists.
“G’s songwriting ability, efficiency in the room and warm nature make her an incredibly successful collaborator.”
Heading to BIGSOUND in 2018 with significant export activity and slots on international festival bills already under her belt, G Flip has continued to build a reputation as a multifaceted songwriter and animated performer. Following her BIGSOUND showcase, G Flip went on to finish playing her second sold out national tour before travelling to the US to showcase in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.
Her 2018 self-produced debut single ‘About You’ was dubbed Pitchfork’s ‘Best New Track’ and now 62 million streams later her music has reached fans globally. In 2019 G Flip released her debut album ‘About Us’ which lead her to three ARIA nominations and triple j feature album of the week.
