Whatever it takes, we’re up for it. Just make it happen. That’s the Stage and Screen philosophy. It’s as simple, and as complex, as that.
Stage and Screen Hit a Six!
We're like seasoned cricket players when it comes to handling the travel logistics of a big game. We smoothly coordinate the movement of athletes, coaches, officials, and even the broadcasting crew like a well-oiled machine. So, when we were tasked with the travel plans for one of the biggest cricket tours on the planet – the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia 2020 – we said ‘game on’!
Not only that, but we also got to be the travel wingman for the official broadcast and media crew of the T20 World Cup – Sunset+Vine. (Dream gig!)
It was all going smoothly until COVID decided to send a few googlies our way. The ICC board had to call stumps and postpone the tournament until 2021/2022. Cricket fans were hit for a six but we didn’t ‘bat’ an eyelid. Stage and Screen has been pivoting since even before it became a thing.
Hitting it Out the Park
With flights and accommodation bookings needing to be changed, updated and moved, our team wasted no time in getting to work. From finding Covid-safe hotels to navigating the constantly changing flight schedules, it was liking starting again from scratch. We rallied together, hustled, and put our all into making sure the 2022 T20 World Cup was a success.
While we might not be on the cricket pitch, we know the importance of getting our favourite players and their crew there. Let's have a squiz at the stats:
- Seven different cities hosted games: Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney. That's a lot of ground to cover!
- We booked 187 flights, plus one massive charter plane.
- We ferried a total of 2,243 passengers around the country.
- We booked a total of 19 hotels across the country for the cricket players, with a grand total of 20,181 room nights.
- We organised 97 vans and trucks for the teams and officials to zip around in.
Lights, camera, action!
Question: If a batsman hits a six but the cameras miss it, did it really happen? That's why we knew we had to step up our game and make sure the Sunset+Vine broadcast crew didn't miss a single ball of the World Cup.
It took some epic planning and execution, but we bowled Sunset+Vine over with our expert travel services. Stage and Screen arranged 424 flights and 29 hotels across the country for the broadcast crew, plus car hire and other incidentals for those on the move.
We also delivered thousands of dollars in travel savings, which always goes down well.
We went above and beyond to ensure the broadcast crew’s travel plans were tight, and their equipment arrived on time and in good condition. The result? They arrived in every location primed and ready to capture every epic moment of the cricket tour action.
Playing in the big league
Numbers don't lie. And at Stage and Screen, we couldn’t be prouder of our travel experts who pull off some epic feats.
"From an operational perspective, managing travel for an event like this is complex. There are so many moving parts for the travel managers to think about, execute, book, check, re-check and liaise with the client about. Hands on and highly technical – this is group travel on steroids. Plus, there’s also the human element to this kind of travel management …we’re moving elite athletes around the country, who need to eat right, exercise and arrive ready to compete at their best. It’s totally high pressure, but we love it and get a thrill out of working on an exciting event like this.”
